Login issues 2009
« on: March 19, 2009, 10:50:09 PM »

The website will not log me in even though I have had an account here for many years.  I get an error message that says "Login Failure".  If I try to set up a new account it tells me my e-mail address is already in the system.  If I ask it to send me my login information to my e-mail account it tells me it is processing and then simply hangs.  I have tried this from a couple of different computers using different versions of the IE browser.  Same result.

The forums WILL allow me to log in..

Paul, were you able to get your login issue resolved?  I just noticed this post.

Each year, I seem to forget that my username is case sensitive so I can't log on.  Once I remember that I am fine.  However, I still have been having a lot of trouble with the web site.  It would not send me my login information when I hit the "Forgot Login Info" link for a few weeks.  It would just go blank.  That appears to be fixed now.

For the past few days, I have been getting a fatal error just trying to bring the site up. That seems to have effected my work PC (running Windwos Server 2003) but not my home PC (Running good old Windows 2000 Server).  But this morning I can log on from work too, so hopefully that bug is gone.

I noticed this morning that when I display my calendar on my home PC, that it only shows the month of March 2009. (Even if I click on the next month button)  It shows all the games on the correct dates for April but it shows it on top of a March calendar.  For example, all the games scheduled to be played on Saturday April 11th are show for Sunday March 11th.  When I log in from my work PC, it displays an April 2009 calendar and al the data is correct.

I know at times I get a bad load on the web site and have to hit Refresh for the page to load.  Unfortnately I can't replicate the problems you describe with the calendar.  Could it possibly have something to do with your system date?  Only a guess and probably lame at best.

As for not receiving the login information that may be due to email server filtering processes.  Has something to do with RDNS or something like that.  Brian did change email servers so those emails might not be getting through but I think he's addressed much of that.

I'm assuming you're using IE 6 or 7.  Have you tried Firefox?  I run Vista with IE7 at home and sometimes have problems with the site loading but if I switch over to Firefox I find I have fewer issues.  Just a thought.

1. Fatal Exception
 - This issue was due to a javascript error on the main page of the site.  From my testing, This issue only showed up in IE6, where as Firefox and IE7 were able to handle the error and continue rendering the page.  This was fixed a couple of days ago.

2. Forgot Login Info Problems
 - For some reason, boeing, t-mobile and other corporate and small business email servers are blocking email sent from the d8umpires.org website.  In the case of boeing, I am seeing mail server logs stating "Remote_Host_Said: 250 Message Accepted for Delivery".  If you are not receiving your login information, I would guess that the message is being blocked somewhere in the boeing email system which I have no control over once the message is accepted for delivery.

3. Calendar Issues
 - Even though Flash/Flex is supposed to be browser independent, I have seen some rendering differences across different OS's, Web Browsers, and versions of Flash Player.  In order to duplicate this, I will need to know exactly which OS is having the issue, which browser, and which flash player the issue is occurring in.

Please also keep in mind that this is a volunteer operation, not an Enterprise grade operation, and that I do not have the financial and/or personel resources to test development on all OS's and platforms.

Brian, I am the first to recognise how much work this is and how grateful we should all be for your efforts.  I have no intention to make this into a whining session.  My only purpose here is to report errors that I find in a manner that is useful to the developer.  You are perfectly free to put limits on your development environments if that would make things easier.  If you want to say that only Windows XP is supported and only IE 7 or Foxfire is supported, then I will stop testing in other enviroments.  I just happen to have a number of PC environments available to me for testing.

This morning I reported the calendar issue from a PC running Windows 2000 Server and IE6.  Right now on that same PC, I am getting a fatal error whenever I try to bring up up the d8 site.  My Windows 2003 Server PC is running IE7 and the site seems to working fine there right now, but earlier in the week I was getting the same fatal error on that machine.  I can also test on Windows XP if you like.

Paul, I cannot seem to duplicate the Fatal Error on my Windows XP machine running IE6.  Are you receiving the error on the main landing page for d8umpires.org or are you receiving it when logging in?  What version of Flash player are you running on your Win2k IE6 machine?
